How is it with… Isabelle Söderberg

In this corona period, we have some time to reflect and look back. With that, Team Hitec Products can look back on quite some history, as it is the oldest still existing UCI team in the peloton. A lot of riders raced for the team since 2019, both from Norway and a lot of other countries. How are they doing now? Every two weeks we look back with a former rider of the team. This time with Isabelle Söderberg.

Swedish cyclist Söderberg raced for the team in its first two years, 2009 and 2010. With a third place in the Dutch one day race Omloop door Middag Humsterland, she gave the new team its first podium spot in a UCI-race in May 2009. We asked Söderberg six questions, to see how she is doing now and how she looks back on her cycling career.

1. How are you doing and what does your life look like now, since you retired as a cyclist?
I’m doing fine! At the moment I stay home with my newborn baby girl. So I started 2020 in the best way! Since I retired, I focus to get back to my “normal” me after my crash in 2013, while taking my bachelor’s degree in economic (sports management). After studies I have been working in the national cycling federation as a coach for the junior girls and as a project manager.

2. You were a cyclist for Team Hitec Products in 2009 and 2010. How do you look back at that time?
I am really thankful for my years with the team. For me it was a good step out to the international peloton. It gave me a lot of experience and opportunities to grow as I cyclist.

3. How do you look back at your cycling career in general?
I am thankful for the all the years and I can still miss it. I wasn’t ready to stop when I had to, I had so much more to give then.

4. Thinking about your time with Team Hitec Products; what is the first thing or moment that pops into your mind?
Oh, it are a lot of good memories, but I’ll say the first spring in the Netherlands. It was special for me. And hard!

5. The team is now in its twelfth year and with that it is the oldest still existing UCI-team. How do you look at that?
I see a team with passion for women’s cycling! Keep it up!

6. What are your hopes for the future of the team and Scandinavian cycling?
I hope the team will stand strong after this year! Everyone and everything will be marked from 2020 but a strong team lifts together. And I hope to see more of Scandinavian girls in the team in the future!

The interview with Isabelle Söderberg was the second one in the ‘How is it with…’ series. Two weeks ago we interviewed Johanne Bergseth, who raced for the team in 2011 and 2012.
