After three of the four days in the Dubai Women’s Tour, Team Hitec Products – Birk Sport already secured three podium spots and is still in the race to win the general classification. Lucy van der Haar started the race with a win in the first stage and sprinted to a second place on day two. On wednesday the third stage was far from flat. Lucy finished third, while Ingrid Lorvik got in as fourth. With that, the general classification is still completely open.
“When I looked at the course before on paper I was pretty scared”, Lucy tells after the third stage. “But out on the road it did go up and down, but not as much as I thought. I’ve trained a lot over the winter so I could feel the benefits in the climbs today. I am super happy to get 3rd though on such a steep climb. The girls helped a lot and it always gives your more confidence when the whole team believes in you.”
Stage winner Tatsiana Sharakova took the lead. Lucy is four seconds behind on the second place in the general classification, with one stage to go. Ingrid is now sixth, on 31 seconds of Sharakova. Lucy: “We will see about tomorrow. Of course it would be amazing to win the GC, but at the moment I haven’t got any jersey to lose, so we will go out there and give it our best shot.”
As she is second in the sprint classification behind Sharakova, Lucy will wear the green jersey again in the final stage. After three stages, Team Hitec Products – Birk Sport is leading the team classification.
