For Julie Meyer Solvang the 2019 season is the second one as a member of Team Hitec Products – Birk Sport. After racing the opening weekend with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Omloop van het Hageland, her third race will be Gent-Wevelgem this weekend. “I like the typical Belgium and Dutch races”, she tells us in this second interview that we do to introduce the riders of the team.
It will be the first time Julie Meyer is racing Gent-Wevelgem, but in advance it looks like a race that suits her. “I like races that are hard and long. Besides that I don’t mind if there are cobbles or if there is a lot of wind, but I don’t like very long hills. Besides those Belgium and Dutch races I also really like races like Vårgårda and the Ladies Tour of Norway.”
Being with the team in 2018, the 29 year old rider saw the struggle around sponsoring last year. As a Norwegian Julie Meyer knows how important the team is. “Team Hitec is really important for us Norwegian girls. This is a team that gives good Norwegian riders and young Norwegian talents the opportunity to race in international UCI races and the best possibility to succeed as cyclist. Without Team Hitec it would be really difficult to become a good international rider.”

With that in mind, she wants to make 2019 a good year. “After meeting all the girls and staff for this season at the training camp, I got really motivated for a new year with the team. I think the team spirit is really good and all the girls and staff are getting along really well. I think with this atmosphere in the team we can achieve so much this season.”
Achieve good results together
So what is Julie Meyer’s goal then? “I want to be a good team player and always do a good job for the team, so we can achieve good results together. My other personal goal is to get stronger race by race and still improve, so that I one day can stand on the podium in an UCI race. I also hope to do a good National Championship and fight for a medal there.”
We can surprise
Julie Meyer is convinced that we can expect some good things of Team Hitec Products – Birk Sport in 2019. “I think we have a lot of strong riders this year. I think Marta really showed a good shape in the first races, and also Lucy. But I think we have a lot of different riders with different qualities, and I think we can surprise a lot this year. We also have a lot of young and talented girls, that I am sure will learn a lot and be strong during the season.”
